Find Your Voice:
Music Lessons
Since starting to teach in 2012, one of my many joys has been helping my students pursue music through individually crafted lessons, while still progressing through touchstones of musical proficiency. Everyone’s background, history, and interest is unique to them, so I feel our lessons should reflect and enhance that.
I work with all ages- music play with children as young as 3 to adults just learning their first musical skill in their 80’s- and teach a variety of skills both technical and artistic in voice, guitar, ukulele, bass & piano- including work with ear training, harmonization and songwriting.
Music is communication, and through our work together, I hope to encourage creativity, build confidence, and help you to truly find your voice.

About Lessons
Lessons are available from anywhere on-line. In-person lessons are taught out of Athens, Georgia.
vocal coaching
Although all my lessons are individualized for age, interest & ability, for all levels of vocalist I start with a review of what I call the Foundational Vocal Techniques.
With voice, our body is our instrument, and these foundational techniques are an exploration of the basic body mechanics involved with singing- breathwork, vocal ranges & registers and phonation.
Once we have those key movements as a framework, we can go anywhere. Some examples of areas we can explore are:
The Mid-Range
Belting
Pitch Precision
Tonality
Sight-Reading
Harmonization
Song Interpretation
Range Expansion
Vocal Texture (vibrato, grit etc.)
and so much more.
As we delve deeper into the wide range of expression you can explore- I’ll help you to work with your intuition, to utilize the tools we are working through, without being overwhelmed by them.
instrument instruction
Whether our focus is a keyboard instrument, like a piano, or a string instrument like a ukulele- all instruments follow the same musical principals. As a multi-instrumentalist, we have the ability to explore instruments both as a singular focus and the interconnectivity between them.
I love being able to give students the opportunity to play with someone, rather than just playing at or for someone.
Ukulele is a great instrument for the young (or not so young) beginner. It’s smaller size helps smaller hands learn technique without being overwhelmed by an instrument they may still be growing in to, and the lessons learned can easily be translated to a guitar. It’s hard to make a ukulele sound bad, so it can be a really encouraging instrument to start exploring.
The style of Guitar I generally like to start teaching with is Fingerstyle Guitar. This method builds dexterity quickly, which can make moving between different styles of play easier. Working with the guitar can flow in to exploring the Bass to find harmonic expressions in the rhythmic flow of music.
For the young Piano student, among other resources, I like using Bastien Piano Basics. It has a great progression of introducing technique and theory with fun and engaging songs. For adults beginning to learn, we can look at many different dynamic approaches to playing the piano, depending on if your goal is to play traditionally, read music, learn how to explore chords and melody, or anything else!

Life can sometimes get in the way of what we are trying to do, and with that in mind I try to be as flexible as I can be to make space for life— while also honoring the time commitment I make for my students.
